NEW YEAR’S EVE ON RUSSIAN TV — NTV LEADS THE RATINGS

New Year’s Eve is the biggest TV night in Russia — similar to the Super Bowl day in the U. S. On this magical evening that NTV captured the biggest audience nationwide leaving behind the traditional leaders like Channel One and Russia 1.
The secret is the super creative programming that gives all NTV shows an original edge, being it our own productions or adapted formats. We don’t hesitate to mix styles to create real primetime winners and we make our own formats or adopt international hits with panache, making any show a huge success. Our mixed genre series ‘Shepherd’ S5 has become the most memorable TV project for Russian viewers in 2020 and our original formats Secret for a Million’ and ‘Superstar’ kept the lead in weekend primetime slot for weeks. But there was one NTV project that ruled them all — the creative adaptation of ‘The Masked Singer’.

The already famous international format became a huge sensation on Russian TV with 28.5% viewing share and 10.7 TVR upon airing in Spring 2020. This was the most viewed entertainment event for the past 4 years on Russian TV and the best musical program of the last decade. To capitalize on this enormous success, NTV prepared a special edition of «The Masked Singer» on December 31. And again, it propelled the channel to the #1 slot with 7.4 TVR and 17.7% viewing share, overtaking Channel One and Russia 1 that aired their own musical programs. It was the major leap forward for NTV.

This was a super successful year for our channel. In 2020, NTV increased its viewing share in all key audiences climbing to10.3% among viewers 18+ and narrowing the gap between the other top two federal broadcasters. The biggest gain — 10% — occurred in audience 14–44. And NTV jumped to #2 position in Moscow and other metropolitan areas with a share of 10.1%. NTV’s innovative, top quality series and shows certainly resonated with the most discerning metropolitan viewers.
