NTV flagship period drama ‘Savage’ aired in SS 2019–2020 with stunning 19.5% viewing share, gets a long-anticipated sequel, despite the S1 collaborator hunt story ended in the finale.
Savage’ is a fantastic project. In Season 1, a special investigative unit was hunting a Nazi collaborator who faked his own death but resurfaced 30 years later. They had to dissect an incredibly sophisticated web of lies and false identities in order to catch the criminal. Powerful story, realistic sets, switching between WWII and 70s timeframes, but most importantly — suspense — made the series the ultimate viewers’ favorite both online and offline. The series goes deep into character’s mind, searching for answers to why a young man would turn into such a monster. Through the first week alone, Savage got over 40 mln views online via NTV channel and scored 5.2 TVR leaving behind all other top broadcasters. ‘Savage’ has been the Russian TV Academy favorite in ‘Best TV War Series’ and ‘Best Actor’ nominations.

In Season 2, the hunt for Nazi collaborators, masquerading as regular Soviet citizens, will continue. The KGB lieutenant colonel Eliseev is investigating a young girl’s murder in Saint Petersburg when he suddenly finds a trace of the Nazi surgeon Herman Schultz. This infamous doctor conducted experiments on prisoners during the WWII and has been on the run ever since.

During the investigation, Eliseev meets Major Grishina and the Head of the Special Cases Unit at the Prosecutor’s Office. Together they follow the trail left by Schultz, going back to WWII transit camp «Peski-2» near the St. Petersburg. In 1944, the commanding staff and camp guards disappeared without a trace. But the Doctor can’t help himself. Many years later he goes back on the hunt for victims. He is being very elusive, dropping crumbs and messing with the investigators. The murders continue: the criminal’s MO is similar in many of them, but some important details do not match, and Eliseev hesitates. Meanwhile, another dangerous Nazi criminal, Alex Lyuty (Dmitry Mulyar), is in jail. Perhaps he knows something about Schultz and may be useful to the investigation. Will he help?
