Incredibly popular crime drama ‘Chief’ is back after a five-year break. The amazingly successful project claimed 22.2% share and 6.8 TVR in S1 and earned the ‘best June 2012 series’ title. All other seasons were major hits as well, scoring 16.3% share and 5.5 TVR on average. The YouTube viewership reached over 365 million. The story of the Police Colonel and then General Victor Rastorguev, truly resonated with the audiences with its authenticity and high pace action.
The series’ plot revolves around the metropolitan detective Viktor Rastorguev, who moves to St. Petersburg after a loud scandal in Moscow. He is appointed the Chief of Police and he institutes new, very simple, rules: serve with honor, fear nobody, and never betray your own. Rastorguev is very tough and his methods invoke both controversy and strong support. He is dedicated to the cause and he is unstoppable in fighting crime. He remembers his true calling even through the toughest moments and biggest challenges. A real hero, he has good sides and bad ones and this makes him incredibly relatable and popular with viewers.

In Season 5, General Rastorguev comes back to investigate a series of murders after someone brutally kills several retired policemen. The victims have no direct connection to each other except for their affiliation with the police. Evidence points to a small city in the St. Petersburg’s region. Rastorguev becomes the Chief of Police in this town and digs into the mysterious case. He quickly realizes that the story is much more complicated and confusing than it seemed to him at the beginning. There are very few people who he can trust and the investigation is growing more and more dangerous.

Chief’ is only one example of fantastic crime dramas produced by NTV. The broadcaster leads the crime/action series production in Russia and often tops the charts with new premieres and proven hits’ sequels. The stories are always original and the execution is great.
