Dark political drama «Fatherland» made it to the finals at ‘Serial Killer’ International Festival in Brno, Czech Republic. This is another successful step in winning the international audiences for this project. Previous screenings at MIPCOM 2020, MIP Cancun 2020, Digital MIPTV 2021 and EFM stirred up many controversies among viewers and buyers. This is a result of very provocative plot and excellent execution. To capture the raw truth, the producers created two versions, one for online audiences with very explosive language and scenes another, redacted, for FTA channels. The online version premiered during 43rd Moscow International Film Festival.
What makes this project so unique is that the issues portrayed there are tabu in Russia. ‘Fatherland’ exposes corruption, money laundry schemes and power-playing games between the government and criminals. It makes the series raw and real, which, in turn, resonates with audiences worldwide. Then, there’s the eternal dilemma of free will that pushes the protagonist down the dark path. He transforms from a justice-seeking journalist into a corrupted dirtbag — the process is extremely dramatic and real and this is exactly what makes the series so uninhibited and powerful.

Fatherland’ is based on Alexander Terekhov’s bestselling book, which has been topping the literary charts for over 8 years in Russia and won Russian Booker Prize and many other awards. Forbidden themes and eternal questions raised in the book made it extremely successful. The series captured that too — love, family, betrayal, free will and choices we make that push us down the wrong path… Add with such excellent execution and brilliant cast, «Fatherland» is bound to become an international TV sensation.
