Brezhnev Town

A teenager struggles to survive through poverty and street crime in a small industrial town.
Unusual historical drama about a teenager from the 1980s Tatarstan’s town. They’ve just completed the first ever big truck assembly line. Now the town will be known as KAMAZ birthplace. Powerful trucks, the pride and fame of the USSR, will soon conquer the Dakkar rally and other toughest races. But for now, it’s just the beginning. New rules, new workplaces, new conflicts. The town drowns in poverty and street crime. The protagonist, 15-year old Artur, gets caught between two city gangs and, when forced in a life or death situation, kills a cop. The young kid is a fugitive now and he has to grow up fast to survive. The series captures the unique and unknown to the world atmosphere in the post-70s Soviet towns. The reality is harsh: food stamps, empty shelves, street crime, police brutality, stabbings, drunkenness and betrayal. And alongside with this — full-scale KAMAZ production, people working hard to achieve something outstanding, friendship and love. A must see for history buffs and teenage drama fans.
